The Sims 2 Hospital Mod: Simney's Ultimate Guide
Recently, I discovered the lovely Meduza had cleaned up the Hospital Mod by Chris Hatch for The Sims 2. I've always loved the idea of this mod, but some elements (especially the generation of random NPCs) turned me off. After trying it out in my test game, I soon realized that I love this mod, it almost felt like a new pack for Sims 2!
However, there really isn't a clear guide to this mod that I can find - it can seem a bit tedious and overwhelming. So, I decided to make one and share it!
Here's My Ultimate Guide to the Hospital Mod by CH for Sims 2!
Download & Installation
Assuming you know how to download & install mods, I've tried to make these instructions as brief as possible. If you don't know how to download & install mods, this can help!
- First, head to this link and download Nyamisims’s Cleaned Hospital Mod.
- Next, create a new folder in your Sims 2 downloads folder, and title it whatever you'd like. I titled mine "Hospital".
- Extract Nyamisims’s mod into the folder you just created.
- Download Meduza's Extra-Clean Hospital Mod. (Tumblr) (Mod The Sims)
- This is where things get a little complicated - if you use any mod that deals with the naming of a newborn, the choosing of a newborn's parents, or a "great-grandchild" memory, you need to find a compatible "ambulance" file. Meduza, an extremely talented creator, made the hospital mod compatible with the types of mods I listed above.
If you don't use mods like that, you can simply choose the "CJH_Sculpture_Ambulance.package". - Follow Meduza's installation instructions and let their files replace Nyamisims’s. (Meduza's mod requires files from Nyamisims’s) Make sure you choose ONE ambulance file and ONE nurse's outfit. (Psss ... I recommend the blue πππ!!!)
The Hospital
As the core and main focus of the mod, the hospital is where sims can go if they're pregnant or sick to either receive treatment or give birth. If you have Bon Voyage or Seasons installed, sims can also receive treatment for sunburn.
Once sims have arrived at the hospital, diseases are no longer contagious and will heal much faster than they would at home, which gives an advantage for going there in the first place!
The hospital is a special lot type - it functions as a community lot, but the game recognizes it as residential. Due to this, sims will not be able to walk or drive their own cars to the hospital, the only way to access the lot is through the "emergency" menu on the phone (see Going to The Hospital for more information). DO NOT move sims into the hospital lot!
Note: Due to the way the mod is coded, the hospital must be downloaded as or built on a community lot. If you've downloaded or built a hospital on a residential lot, use this guide to convert the lot to the "community" zoning.
Recommended Hospital Lots
If you prefer downloading lots instead of building them yourself, there are a few that have a ✨Simney stamp of approval✨:
- [CC FREE] Pleasantview Regional Hospital by yours truly πππ!!!
Note: This lot is almost "turnkey" ready to use with this mod! - [CC FREE] Sacred Spleen Memorial Hospital rebuilt for Sims 2 by Danielle (I really like this lot and highly recommend it!)
- Mercy Hospital by sunni9676
Note: This lot may lag tremendously depending on your computer! - [BASE GAME] Shoo Flee Medical Center by twoflower
- [MINIMAL CC] Strangetown Medical Centre/Lucky Palms Sun Health Hospital by YanderePlumSims
- The Mini Lovely Hospital by Rose
Setting Up a Hospital
Setting up a hospital is fairly simple, it's almost reminiscent of building an apartment in Sims 2. Whether you build your own hospital or download one, you still need to make some adjustments to completely turn it into a fully-functional hospital.
- Make sure there are "bed markers" next to each hospital bed - the mod uses this flower vase, called "Frost de Fleur Bud Vase". Sims coming to the hospital will look for this flower vase to "claim" their beds.
- The heartbeat of this mod is the ambulance sculpture, found in Buy Mode > Decorative > Sculptures, priced at §500. When placing the ambulance, you will immediately get an object error (if you have cheats enabled) - don't worry! Click "cancel" or "reset".
Then visit the hospital with your sims, click on the ambulance, and select "set up".
That's all there is to it!
The Phone Call + Going to The Hospital
To visit the hospital, one of your sims must either be sick, in the third trimester of pregnancy, or sunburnt. The mod prioritizes pregnant sims, then the sickest sim, then sunburnt sims. If multiple sims qualify for hospitalization, you'll get an option to choose which sims will join the caller.
Note: Any sim can call the hospital as long as there is a qualifying household member, allowing for sims to call the hospital for each other. (E.g., if Cassandra Goth is sick and needs medical attention, Mortimer or Alexander can call the hospital for her)
Children can call the hospital, however, if they are the only qualifying sim for hospitalization, the child's parent, guardian, or an available adult living in the same household will accompany the child to the hospital, and stay with them until the child is discharged.
The phone accesses multiple hospitals at a time, this is handy especially if you play in multiple subhoods/an uberhood. For example, if you have Veronaville attached to Pleasantview and have a hospital in both neighborhoods, the phone will give you an option to choose which hospital you would like your sim to receive treatment from.
If you have a hospital in a vacation 'hood, only that hospital will be available while your sims are on vacation; these hospitals are intended for short visits and primarily for treating sunburns.
Going to The Hospital
Click on the phone, select "Call...", then select "Emergency". This phone call is only available on residential, vacation, and hotel lots. The mod's coding uses the default Maxis taxi, however, the taxi is pre-given the address of the destination, instead of the player having to enter it in. The mod will tell the taxi that pregnant sims are able to go to the hospital. Your game will then load into the hospital like a normal lot.
Someday, Dina will understand ... in the watcher's whole plan ... and what they've done to her...
The Ambulance
As the core component of the hospital, the ambulance contains several options that allow the player to customize the hospital to their liking, as well as menu items that correspond to a sim's current condition. The menu items are divided into primarily three groups:
- Lot Options - This has a variety of controls and options to suit your needs.
- Nurse Options - Allows the player to set shifts for the nurses. (See Nurses for more information)
- Pregnancy Options - Allows the player to speed up, slow down, pause, resume, force twins, or force a single baby.
Note: To avoid spoiling any surprises, Chris Hatch has the "Force Twins" and "Force Single" menu options both listed.
Note: Shift + Clicking the ambulance with cheats enabled allows the player to enable Build/Buy Modes for the hospital. The build/buy catalog will be the same as if it were a residential lot.
Townie Patients
This mod uses the townies in your neighborhood to fill up the hospital with patients.
General Hospital patients will display sickness symptoms, however, they are not actually sick, which eliminates the risk of infection in your neighborhood. (Especially if you're like me and play with realistic sickness!)
During the day, townie patients will be sent home, and another townie will come in for treatment. There is a default maximum of four townie patients, and the number will be reduced if you send more than one playable sim to the hospital at the same time.
Patient Behavior
Child patients will attempt to choose a room that contains both a toy box and a flower vase - if your hospital has a dedicated Children's ward, make sure each room in the ward has those items. Teens, Adults, and Elder sims will try to stay away from taking rooms that have a toy box and a flower vase, allowing for better separation of the children and older sims.
Teens, Adults, and Elder sims won't choose a room where a sim of the opposite gender has already claimed if your hospital has a room with multiple beds.
If townies are unable to find rooms that suit their needs as described above, they will simply just use any room with an available bed. If townies cannot find a bed upon arrival, they won't sleep for the duration of their hospital stay ... so make sure your hospital has enough beds!
Maternity Patients
By default, the mod will check for pregnant townies in your game. (Usually, when my townies get pregnant in the game, I move them out on their own using this method so I can play with them in my rotation. I wouldn't recommend leaving a townie pregnant without them becoming playable. See Labor & Delivery for more information.)
If there are none, without the NoTownieRegen mod, the game will generate a pregnant townie (I personally use NoTownieRegen as I don't like randomly-generated sims).
If you don't mind randomly generated sims, the mod will use the game's default townie creation method, and create pregnant patients. However, these sims aren't actually pregnant, they just appear to be.
Maternity patients will not display any sickness symptoms, as they're not sick. Instead, they will need quite a bit of rest, and can be found relaxing in their rooms, awaiting their new bundle of joy.
Nurses + How I Handle Them
Two nurses are spawned with the ambulance. The player is given an option to set shifts for "Nurse A" and "Nurse B" with the ambulance. I HIGHLY recommend that you DO NOT set shifts for your nurses - this will just generate more identical nurses.
Nurses are NPCs that are actually controlled - which, honestly, is kind of fun! While you still have to monitor their needs, you can control them to care for not only your sim, but the other patients as well. However, if you prefer to not control them, they will still autonomously check on patients, do computer work, and take care of their own needs as sims usually do. Nurses are assigned to the ambulance, so they will always be at the hospital every time you visit. The game sees it as the nurses are "living" at the hospital, although they're technically not.
Nurses perform "rounds" every hour during the day. They will check the computer, visit patients that are awake, and try to cheer them up. Sims who are grouchy may reject the nurses... because sims in The Sims 2 actually have personality. Nurses that are selectable will not do any rounds, as they're yours to control.
There are two special rounds performed at night where the nurse will check each sleeping patient and then check the computer. If nurses are sleeping, night rounds will not be performed.
If your sim gives birth to twins, the nurse will help your sim get both babies into the taxi and home safely.
For whatever reason, there's also an option to move the nurse into your sims' family or move them out on their own. If your gameplay gets extremely juicy, you can also send a pregnant nurse to the hospital she works at to have her baby! So... there's that!
How I Handle Nurses
If I could have just one bone to pick with this mod, it would be the nurses. I dislike the fact that they're generated from the same template - meaning they all have the same outfit, face, hair, makeup, skin tone, eye color, and slightly different first names. I also really dislike that all nurses are female sims. (All nurses share the same last name, Feelgood)
Bertha Feelgood, my test game, 2022.
To fix this problem, I use The Sims 2 BodyShop and SimPE.
I use this method to create a brand-new sim, I import that sim into my game, and then I use this method to perform (ironically) "Sim Surgery" to replace both nurses with two, completely new, unique sims. I then use this name generator to find names that I can roll with, and give both nurses two completely different first and last names through SimPE. Finally, I give them a backstory and write little bios for both of them, basing their story on their memories, interests, personalities, hobbies, turn-ons, turn-offs, etc. (You don't have to imagine your sims' personality in Sims 2 π)
I also use this guide to make male nurses.
This, for some reason, just makes me feel better knowing the nurses are unique and have their own identities and story. Also, if I ever need fresh blood in my neighborhoods, (If you play 'hoods rotationally in Sims 2, you know how it is!) I have two unique sims!
Doctors + How I Handle Them
The original mod comes with two doctors to choose from, but I believe the creators who cleaned the mod may have removed this feature.
Chris Hatch's original guide to this mod states that the doctors are "'NPC Uniques' (like the grim reaper)" ... however, don't let this scare you! The doctors are just like the nurses, they have complete character data, and will not corrupt your game if you make them selectable.
Coming in twice a day, doctors will roam around the hospital, checking on patients and giving diagnoses to sims. He will check on sleeping patients as well. If you have Seasons or Bon Voyage installed, when sims have a sunburn, the doctor can immediately cure it.
How I Handle Doctors
I handle doctors in a manner similar to nurses, however, I'm a little more lenient toward doctors since there's only one the mod uses. One of the major tasks I perform with doctors is a name change - I usually randomize a name using a name generator, and then stick "Dr." before it.
Cooks
Hospitals use cooks if a cafeteria is present (A stove, fridge, and two tables must be in the same room for the mod to recognize a cafeteria). The mod will try to use sims in the neighborhood who are in the culinary career to be the cook. If no available sims are found, the mod will default to the Nightlife chef found in unowned restaurants in Sims 2.
When meals are finished, patients are called to the meal, and the cook may stick around for a few hours to socialize.
If you don't want a cook for your hospitals but still want a cafeteria, simply put the stove and fridge in a different room from the dining tables.

Staff
Sims in your neighborhood, townie or playable, who are currently employed in the Medicine career will show up for work at your local hospital. Each sim will have up to three shifts to work: 8:00am-4:00pm, 4:00pm-12:00am, and 12:00am-8:00am. Some tasks include keeping the hospital clean, taking care of repairs, gardening, checking the computer, etc. Sims will never work a double shift - the mod will automatically find another suitable sim, townie or playable, to come into work.
Note: Unlike nurses, these sims are not controllable without mods or cheats.
Hospital Security
The mod will take police officers or sims currently employed in the Law Enforcement career from your neighborhood to patrol the campus of your hospital. A smaller lot will have one officer, while a larger lot will have two. The mod will calculate how many officers are needed depending on the number of windows currently on the lot - fifty or more windows will be recognized as a large lot.
Officers will patrol the lot, looking through windows in the main areas. For the sake of sims' privacy, officers will not walk into patient rooms or wards.
Hospital Schedule & Visitors
During the day, there are two visiting times - 10:00am-12:00pm & 5:00pm-8:00pm. If children visitors are present, the game's visitor controller may send them home at 6:00pm.
The mod takes sims outside of your current household who are in school/employed into consideration, as they will not visit the hospital during the weekday mornings. Weekday mornings are reserved for family only and have a maximum of four family members at a time.

Weekend mornings, however, allow all sims. Sims who normally work on the weekends will arrive at the hospital in their work clothes, to give the illusion that they just came from work. Any relatives, friends, and townies can visit sims in the hospital during this time. Depending on your computer, the maximum amount of visitors may vary.
Note: To predict how many sims may appear on the weekend visiting schedule, see how many sims your computer allows on a lot, add six to that number, then subtract the number of sims already on the lot.
Labor & Delivery
When it's time for pregnant sims in the hospital to give birth, medical staff will help assist with the delivery. Pregnant sims will give birth exactly how they do on a residential lot, except now they're in a hospital environment! (Perfect for screenshots ✨)
The Evil Twins rush to Dina as she goes into labor.Doctor Bob coming to deliver Dina's nooboos.
When a nooboo is born, your sim will be given the option to either keep the newborn, or put the baby up for adoption - the choice is entirely yours to make. The pop-up includes two adoption choices, to either adopt the baby to a playable family in your neighborhood, or to give the baby to the default "orphan" family, the game's default adoption pool (where all children who are taken away go to). If the baby is sent to the "orphan" family, he or she will be first in line for adoption, if you have any sims who wish to adopt a baby.
When adopted to a playable family, the receiving adult sim will obtain the required relationship to take care of the newborn, and receive the memory of adoption.
If a pregnant townie ends up giving birth at the hospital, the baby will automatically be added to the "orphan" family, even if you choose to keep the baby. If you've read Maternity Patients above, this is why I don't leave townies pregnant without making them playable first!
If you choose to keep the baby, the staff may require your sim to rest a little bit longer and place the baby in the nursery. To go home, click the phone booth (or your sim if they have a cell phone) and select "Call Taxi". When asked where you would like to go, select "Home." Your sim will then get their baby, get into the taxi, and go home. As I said before, if your sim has multiple babies, the nurse will assist your sim with getting them home.
Chris Hatch included a "baby bonus" for sims who are in rough financial situations. The amount is customizable, but by default, §1,000 will be granted to those sims. You can also turn it off if you'd like.

Outdoor Hospitals
Outdoor hospitals are designed to work with the expansion pack Bon Voyage, especially for beach lots.
For the mod to recognize an outdoor hospital, there must be no windows on the lot whatsoever. Hammocks may be used instead of beds, whichever you prefer. All sims who visit an outdoor hospital will arrive in their swimwear.
The lot should have some trees and shrubs placed somewhere, so staff can use them as "starting points" instead of desks and computers.
The End
Thanks for reading my gameplay guide, and I hope this helps at least a little! π€
